Gatherings
Study Together. Contemplate Deeply.
The in-person gatherings form the heart of Esoteric Society. They provide a regular rhythm in which ideas can be studied, contemplated, meditated upon and explored with others.
You do not need previous experience, terminology or agreement with everything being studied. You need only bring curiosity and a willingness to engage thoughtfully.
Before Each Gathering
Participants will generally receive a selected reading before the meeting. This may be accompanied by reflective questions, seed thoughts, supporting notes and meditation guidance where appropriate.
Participants are encouraged to read and reflect upon the material before attending.
Preparation is not compulsory. However, those who establish a regular rhythm of preparation generally discover that the gatherings become considerably more meaningful.
What Happens at a Gathering?
Arrival and Stillness — Time to settle, become present and leave the momentum of the day behind.
Introduction — A brief orientation to the current theme and reading.
Study and Contemplative Dialogue — Selected ideas are explored together. Questions are encouraged. The emphasis is upon understanding rather than debate.
Meditation — Each gathering includes a period of esoteric meditation related directly to the theme under study. The method, drawn from the Raja Yoga tradition, brings study, seed contemplation, meditation and practical application into a coherent rhythm of enquiry.
Guidance is provided progressively, allowing both new and experienced participants to work within the same shared structure.
Reflection — Participants may share observations or insights arising from their study and practice.
Application — We consider how the principles being explored might find practical expression in ordinary life.
Between Gatherings
The work does not end when the meeting finishes. Participants are encouraged to continue reflecting upon the material during everyday life. Some may choose to keep a private meditation or reflection journal. Others may simply observe.

What becomes mentally clearer?
What remains unresolved?
These observations become part of the next cycle of study.
Commitment
There is no requirement to attend every gathering. You are welcome to attend initially simply to explore whether the Society is right for you.
Those who choose to participate regularly may find that continuity supports the cumulative nature of the study and meditation.
Contribution
There is no fixed fee for attending a gathering.
A voluntary contribution of around $10–$20 per gathering is customary and appreciated, simply to help cover basic running costs.
The contribution is entirely voluntary.
Finances should never be a barrier to attending.

Do I need previous experience?
No. Previous experience is not required.
Do I need to belong to a particular belief system or religion?
No. The Society is non-denominational.
Do I need to agree with the material?
No. Thoughtful questioning is encouraged.
Do I need to know how to meditate?
No. Previous meditation experience is not required. Guidance is provided throughout the gathering.
How does this fit with an existing meditation practice?
The Society’s meditation method can often sit comfortably alongside many existing contemplative or devotional practices. Those undertaking intensive breathwork, centre-focused practices or other activating meditation methods are encouraged to mention this when enquiring, so that the overall practice remains balanced. The aim is integration rather than the accumulation of methods.
How much does it cost?
Attendance is by voluntary contribution, usually $10 to $20. Contributions help cover venue and basic running costs, but no one should feel unable to attend because of cost.
What should I bring?
A notebook, curiosity and a willingness to think deeply.

Gatherings are held in the Perth metropolitan area. Current locations and dates will be provided with individual event information.
